Kon'nichiwa Fellow Otakus!
Many of you have expressed curiosity about how I make comics in my physical condition. It's a question that I've never really thought about answering until now--so here goes!
As you all know, I’m an American Mangaka with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, or DMD for short. This genetic disorder is caused by an absence of dystrophin, a protein that helps keep muscle cells intact. It gradually weakens your muscles, including your heart and lungs. I retain all feeling currently, but can’t move more than a few millimeters at most.
THIS IS MY WORKSTATION, WHERE I WORK ON MY IDEAS AND DIRECT MY PRODUCTION TEAM FOR FOXY AND WOLFY!
I write and assist in design for FOXY AND WOLFY by using my mouth and specialized equipment for my PC. It works by using my tongue while sipping and puffing air through drinking straws. Essentially, it’s a Playstation and XBox controller combined simultaneously.
THIS IS WHAT I USE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE WORLD AND TO MAKE COMICS.
Even though my genetic disorder may present its fair share of challenges and stresses, it doesn't get in the way of creating manga and comics. The most rewarding part of my job is bringing joy and entertainment to all of my awesome fans despite my physical limitations.
Everyone needs a break from the pressures of daily life and I'm committed to delivering an experience that will leave readers begging for more! This is more than just a creative outlet for me. This is what defines me. This is my calling and I love that despite my condition, I can still inspire and most importantly, provide a breathtaking experience for my readers.
Some of the book art, posters and prints my team has produced with some amazing artists!
Naoko Takeuchi, Eiichiro Oda and Rumiko Takahashi are my biggest influences. They made stories that I enjoyed and encouraged me to get into this field.
THIS IS ME WITH MY DEAR FRIEND, SWEDISH MANGAKA--NATALIA BATISTA!
Running a Kickstarter campaign is challenging for anyone but in my case, it is the life force of my work. Your support really means more than just a few added dollars. It allows me to continue building the world and characters that I've created and that means so much to me.
I'm here for you and because of you so if you guys want to know more about me just ask!
